You know the drill! But if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As stated above, thanks to Derrick Henry, and an assist from the Cleveland Browns getting a win over the Steelers on Sunday, the Ravens will head to Pittsburgh in a winner-take-all match for the AFC North title. But first Glenn and Griffin will recap the big 41-24 win over the Packers in Lambeau with our Pats on the Ass lists.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 17 Pats:
5. LB Trenton Simpson
It was’t easy to find a second defensive player but he made the play on Malik Willis on 3rd & goal that prevented the Packers from either scoring or getting it close enough to be able to go for it and instead forced a field goal attempt to start the third quarter when they were down 13.
4. DT Travis Jones
I honestly thought about putting him higher on the list but the defense just wasn’t good enough on the whole for me to be able to do that.
3. FB Pat Ricard
I feel like the rest will be pretty self-explanatory. He was at his absolute Pat Ricard best.
2. QB Tyler Huntley
1. RB Derrick Henry (two billion pats)
Who would have thought?
Griffin Bass’s Week 17 Pats:
5. LB Roquan Smith
The defense was flat out bad, but Roquan made perhaps the play of the game when he blew up Josh Jacobs on a 4th and 1 early in the game.
4. DL Travis Jones
Green Bay abandoned the run pretty instantly so that made his day a bit easier but he was the lone defender to impact both aspects of the game, air and ground.
3. HC John Harbaugh
Yes, he should be on this list. Had to hear it all week after not giving Henry the ball in the 4th quarter vs New England. And to Glenn’s point, they knew what kind of game they had to play and it started at the coin toss opting to control the ball and get ahead early. Great gameplan, obviously it helps to have #22.
2. FB Patrick Ricard
Go! Pat! Go! I think he was the lead blocker on all 36 of Henry’s carries (hyperbole).
1. RB Derrick Henry (two billion pats)
A historic performance, the kind I’ll tell my grandkids about.
You can listen as the guys both recap the weekend in the GCR Picks Contest–a mostly dreadful week all around, except for Griffin–and explain their Pats on the Ass selections:
Here are the updated standings in the GCR Picks Contest, an impressive performance from Jeremy Conn puts him in contention for the top spot, still a few games behind Griffin. Meanwhile, Glenn continues his free fall towards the bottom:
