Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–a disappointing week for the birds, going 2-4, who appear to be a little burned out, excuses begone, the bats were rewarded all the praise this week and pitching clearly struggled.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. CF Cedric Mullins
You just pray that his 8/20 with three extra base hits is the moment we’ve been waiting for this season.
2. SS Gunnar Henderson
Ho hum, another week of OPS-ing over 1.000 (1.175 this week to be exact). A shame he finished 0-6 on Saturday and Sunday.
1. C Adley Rutschman
Is 11/24 with five more walks good? It certainly seems good.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. SS Gunnar Henderson
Saw his numbers as pretty similar to Cedric but had to go with Gunnar because he did those same things better, more power, more stolen bases, and got on base more.
2. 1B/DH/OF Ryan O’Hearn
Clutch AB after clutch AB in New York. He’s a staple of this lineup, which feels unbelievable to say.
1. RF Anthony Santander
Adley was great, but he didn’t drive in a single run this week. And I like home runs, and Tony hit a lot of them this week, like he has all month.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SP Cole Irvin
Back to back rough starts for Irvin, which is concerning given they needed to be able to rely on him. It’s particularly disappointing that he couldn’t get through the fifth inning (five earned runs) because his lineup scored 11 while he was on the mound.
2. SP Albert Suarez
We are veering very close towards “back into a pumpkin” territory.
1. SP Grayson Rodriguez
Ironically he did strike out eight but allowed seven earned runs on nine hits (and two more walks) and this team needs him to be their #2 starter the rest of the season and this was tremendously disappointing.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. OF Colton Cowser
I wanted to spread around the criticism. So Cowser makes the list, he has not been good and this week and it felt no different than the last several for Colton, especially when everyone else was hitting.
2. RP Jacob Webb
Lots of things went wrong in Houston, Jacob Webb not being able to record a single out Friday night was one of the worst for me, especially after the offense kept the team in the game the entire night.
1. SP Albert Suarez
Yikes. Big Al is not a starter, hopefully he gets sent back to the bullpen soon and is able to dial in a little more there.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
