Glenn and Griffin continued their new segment for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. 3B Jordan Westburg
This was tough because Corbin Burnes was so good in his start against the Red Sox that I wanted to put him on the list despite him not being at his best against the Brewers. But it was a big week for Westburg when the offense needed to get going.
2. RP Keegan Akin
Wow. Just wow. He allowed just two base runners over 3.2 innings last week and has continued on an absolute heater to start the season.
1. OF Colton Cowser
Probably the easiest #1 we’ll have all season.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. Closer Craig Kimbrel
Wasn’t in love with this move, let me rephrase, I wasn’t in love with this being the only bullpen move. He’s looked very good, he’s been reliable, even on back-to-backs and this has been his best week so far.
2. SP Corbin Burnes
Another pair of strong starts, was masterful vs Boson to pick another Orioles Opening Day win in Fenway, was shaky at times yesterday vs Milwaukee but he did his job quieting a red-hot Brewers lineup and gave the O’s bats a chance to do what they do best, win.
1. OF Colton Cowser
MOOOOOOOO!
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SP Tyler Wells
The Brewers have been red hot but he was absolutely shelled.
2. SP Cole Irvin
Speaking of getting shelled, he put 10 guys on over five innings against the Red Sox.
1. RF Anthony Santander
The expectations are much higher here. And on top of going 3-24 with just one walk and 4K’s there was the adventure with the pop-up in right field against the Red Sox. Just a brutal week.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. SP Cole Irvin
This is what he is, I’m scared to death with him on the mound tonight in Minnesota and lined up to make two starts this week.
2. RF Anthony Santander
Yeah, it was a rough week, but still had a big HR in Thursday’s win over the Red Sox. I have confidence he turns this around rather quickly and emphatically.
1. SP Tyler Wells
The long ball continues to be an issue, I don’t like how this is trending at all.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
