Here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always reflect on the Baltimore Ravens game in a more jovial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As you are surely aware, the Ravens fell to the Giants up in New Jersey yesterday after blowing yet another late-game, double-digit lead. As a result, we have some Helmet Slaps to dish out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet (or face). That one player, or person, who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps to the Helmet for Week 6:
5. CB Marcus Peters
It wasn’t the worst penalty I’ve ever seen but it was a penalty. And it was quite costly.
4. EDGE Odafe Oweh
Are you sensing a theme? Some weeks players make this list because they don’t contribute. This week’s list is basically the players whose errors were most critical. The Giants would have faced 4th and short had it not been for Oweh’s
3. FB Patrick Ricard
I mean, I just don’t understand how this happens. Plus the illegal formation was really on him.
2. C Tyler Linderbaum
There have been positive signs from Linderbaum this season and there have been a number of issues. His early snap was obviously a MASSIVE issue.
1. QB Lamar Jackson (two slaps)
There’s just no way around it. The interception was unthinkable and was the single biggest turning point in the game. I know he was trying to make a play because it was third down…but it just cannot happen.
Griffin’s Week 6 Slaps to the Helmet:
5. LB Patrick Queen
A first round pick and has not lived up to it. He’s supposed to lead the defense, not hinder it.
4. S Kyle Hamilton
He’s only playing half the snaps, how is the 14th overall pick and “top 5 talent” only playing half of your team’s snaps? This is a culmination of what the season has been.
3. C Tyler Linderbaum
A first round center can’t have botched snaps that lead to game-altering turnovers, they can’t. Especially can’t when other teams are trading first round draft picks for AJ Brown and are undefeated.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
Horrible, horrible mistakes and are the sole reason we lost yesterday’s game, and it is a reflection of who my number 1 is.
1. GM Eric DeCosta (two slaps)
How do we construct a team with no wide receivers? EDC is responsible for 3 of the 4 first round picks on my list and to this point, they are not getting it done. That is what yesterday came down to, an incomplete roster. Especially hard to watch when you look around the league at other teams who are thriving after going out and adding an elite WR (i.e. Eagles and AJ Brown).
In case you missed it, we went over our weekly Picks Contest results as well. There was a side bet for this week which means Griffin is just automatically losing at this point. For punishment, Griffin had to consume $28 worth of Taco Bell…something that would have surely killed Glenn Clark, so Griffin taking the loss may have saved a life today. You watch Griffin eat his Taco Bell order starting at the 3:20 mark of today’s show:
