You know the drill by now, but if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As we all saw, the Ravens took care of business in all facets in the second half against the Browns en route to a 41-17 win, as a result, Glenn and Griffin have some Ass Pats to dish out:
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Pats on the Ass. That one player who one single Pat just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 2 Pats:
5. ST Jake Hummel
We’ll get to it tomorrow but he made the biggest play of the game.
4. WR Zay Flowers
Apologies to Tez Walker and DeAndre Hopkins, who both made massive plays. But Flowers was probably the most consistent offensive player on the day.
3. LB Teddye Buchanan
It took him two weeks to become the starter and he clearly wasn’t interested in giving it back.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
The crazy part about this is that when I started making the list, I thought “is it possible Lamar doesn’t make the list?” We don’t think he played anywhere near his best football and yet he threw for four touchdowns.
1. LB Roquan Smith (two pats)
The best player on the field besides maybe Myles Garrett and maybe not besides Myles Garrett. He was awesome.
Griffin Bass’s Week 2 Pats:
5. ST Jake Hummel
He was brought in specifically to make an impact on special teams, and that’s exactly what he did. Was responsible for the only source of offense they had in the first half, allowed the whole team to take a deep breath.
4. CB Nate Wiggins
He was the best corner on the field, the interception is the cherry on top. Handled Jeudy and his nonsense masterfully, totaled three PBUs and a TFL.
3. QB Lamar Jackson
The quietest 4 TD game ever. The bar for Lamar is so high, and I didn’t like that he wasn’t running, and maybe a sack or two he could’ve evaded, albeit it was Myles Garrett that was chasing him. Watch this play:
2. LB Roquan Smith
We’ve talked about it ad nauseam now, he looked as good as he ever has. He was the one chasing Joe on the interception, obviously came up with fumble recovery TD too. All around fantastic stuff, and every single stat backs it up.
1. WR Zay Flowers (two pats)
He was the best player on the field. He was Lamar’s favorite target. He makes unbelievable catches, he evades tackles that I don’t even know how he knows there’s a tackler there. Here he is coming back to be Lamar’s safety blanked on 3rd down:
