You know the drill! But if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
The Ravens playoff hopes are on life support, they’ve lost three of their last four games and the most recent was on primetime Sunday night against the Patriots… and feels as if the writing may be on the wall. Regardless, we’ll go through our lists, here is how Glenn and Griffin saw the game playing out and who we should be blaming:
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 16 Slaps:
5. WR Zay Flowers
He was too good to be higher on the list but it’s not just that he fumbled. It’s that the fumble came on a play where he was still hopping first and not immediately getting up field.
4. S Malaki Starks
It wasn’t that he was bad but the middle of the field was a problem and his awful effort on tackling Stefon Diggs in the flat to start the third quarter really stuck with me.
3. TE Mark Andrews
Wut. (This wasn’t just goofy. It was harmful. With the penalty, they would have had the ball at the New England 45 with still 15 seconds left.)
2. CB Marlon Humphrey
He’s just not an outside corner.
1. HC John Harbaugh (two slaps)
The time has come.
Griffin Bass’s Week 16 Slaps:
5. RB Keaton Mitchell
Derrick Henry not seeing another snap after scoring with 12:50 to go in the 4th quarter is questionable. It’s less questionable if Keaton Mitchell doesn’t have his worst game as a pro: 13 yards on NINE carries, 1.4 ypc.
4. WR Zay Flowers
Zay Fumblers.
3. OLB Tavius Robinson
Most snaps of any pass rusher–deserved after last week–and had very little, nearly nothing to show for it.
2. CB Marlon Humphrey
Stefon Diggs rewinded the clock several years on the whole secondary, but Marlon was getting beat by everyone.
1. HC John Harbaugh (two slaps)
I unfortunately don’t have much to add here.
