You know the drill! But if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
Ravens get themselves off the AFC North schneid with a shutout victory in Cincinnati defeating Joe Burrow and the Bengals 24-0. Defense led the way, so let’s see how Glenn and Griffin saw things stacking up in our Pats on the Ass lists:
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 15 Pats:
5. QB Lamar Jackson
While the numbers may still look pedestrian, we know he deserved a bit better, particularly the interception of Zay’s hands and the touchdown that Zay should have caught.
4. RB Derrick Henry
It’s fair to question whether he should have gotten the ball more, but I do understand limiting him late given how miserable the temperatures were.
3. EDGE Dre’Mont Jones
FIVE quarterback hits and the fun crying meme. He was a menace.
2. EDGE Tavius Robinson
At some point in the day, they officially took away one of his QB hits so he only finished with two. But he had the most impactful defensive play of the first half (and if I’m being honest, maybe even more than the pick six) and it’s hard to ignore how much better the edge rush was on the whole with him on the field.
1. DC Zachary Orr (two pats)
If you shut out Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, your Defensive Coordinator is probably going to be #1 on this list.
Griffin Bass’s Week 15 Pats:
5. Safety Alohi Gilman
He was already having a great game, flying to the ball, made several plays in the flat already, and then the pick six was a cherry on top, couldn’t keep him off my list on an all-around phenomenal defensive performance.
4. RB Derrick Henry
A nice and simple 9.1 yards per carry.
3. QB Lamar Jackson
It was a great game. Looked more like his old self, two extremely timely scrambles for first downs, looked much more crisp and accurate with the football. Plus this check to work around the Bengals blitz that led to a third down touchdown:
2. EDGE Dre’Mont Jones
Would have loved for him to get a sack on Burrow, but he did throw him to the ground multiple times and was constantly in the backfield, wreaking havoc all game, both mentally and physically.
1. OLB Tavius Robinson (two pats)
His presence was felt the whole game, which is crazy because he didn’t even log half the snaps (understandable, his first game back from injury). He was involved in all aspects of the game, that massive sack of Burrow on 3rd down, a TFL, and had the game-winning pressure to force the decisive pick six.
You can listen as the guys both recap the weekend in the GCR Picks Contest–a mostly dreadful week all around, except for Griffin–and explain their Pats on the Ass selections:
