You should know the drill by now, but if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As you all are surely aware, the Ravens fell short to the Kansas City Chiefs last night in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game eight months prior back in here in Baltimore, as a result, we have some Helmet Slaps to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps to the Helmet:
5. S Marcus Williams
He was actually really good last night. But the late hit is just so inexcusable from a veteran in a game with such small margins.
4. RG Daniel Faalele
Unlike the other question marks on the line, this is just the one I have the least faith will work out as the season goes on.
3. LB Malik Harrison
I have seen executions that weren’t as painful as watching Malik Harrison on Rashee Rice.
2. LT Ronnie Stanley
It’s complicated. I acknowledge that there was probably an issue with how the team was told the rule would be adjudicated. I also acknowledge that it makes no sense in comparison to what wasn’t being called on the Chiefs. But it still happened and was a major story in the game.
1. HC John Harbaugh (two slaps)
If you’re a “obsessed with firing coaches” weirdo, this is not the moment where I’ve joined your side. But the two timeouts, while necessary, were unforgivable. And you can pin them on Zach Orr-but it’s his first game as DC and John Harbaugh needs to be additionally involved to prevent that from happening.
Griffin’s Slaps to the Helmet:
5. RT Roger Rosengarten
Could be Faalele, maybe Eric DeCosta? I mean who would’ve thought losing three veteran OL and replacing them with a rotation of guys who have ZERO NFL experience wouldn’t work. Rosengarten, albeit a rookie and taking his first NFL snap of his career, did allow the strip sack of Lamar. Can only go up from here.
3. LB Malik Harrison
The Chiefs were openly picking on him coming out of the second half. You presume they expect more for him to be having this big a role already, yes Kyle Van Noy got hurt, but Malik man, it’s year five, he’s not offering much.
3. CB Marlon Humphrey
Whether there should’ve been safety help on the second Xavier Worthy TD or not, Marlon never even bumped him. On top of a very lackluster day overall, not finishing tackles, looking slow running down guys, not top five corner things by any means.
4. LT Ronnie Stanley
I really don’t know how to measure those illegal formations, but something had to be fixed, and apparently it just really wasn’t addressed. Again, this is one of your vets that needs to lead this team. And those penalties weren’t daggers, but they wounded the offense.
1. HC John Harbaugh (two slaps)
For two major reasons. Going for it on 4th and 3 at the 50 in the 2nd quarter was the right decision, horrible play-call. Then burning not one, but two timeouts coming right out of halftime, and immediately letting up huge gains after both, WHAT? Oh and the illegal formations, as ticky-tacky as they were, how, HOW can that continue to happen. So I guess three major reasons that all fall under the Head Coach umbrella.
And with the Ravens opening up Week 1 on Thursday, that meant Stan ‘The Fan’ Charles got to hand out some much deserved Slaps as well:
5. CB Marlon Humphrey
The busted coverage on the second Xavier Worthy TD, can’t have it.
4. OLB David Ojabo
Sure, had that sack. But he completely disappeared after that.
3. LT Ronnie Stanley
Those penalties, among other things. He has got to figure it out.
2. HC John Harbaugh
A myriad of things, but the decision to go for it on 4th and 3, cannot get over it
1. RT Roger Rosengarten (two slaps)
His first snap, allowing the strip sack, that was a significant play in the game. Who knows what ensues if that doesn’t happen.
