Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–a short week due to the All-Star break but the birds take two of three down in Texas leaving for more positive than negative, but those negatives certainly magnified in the loss.

Without further adieu:

Glenn’s Three Up:

3. SP Corbin Burnes

The four walks were concerning but he put together a great start altogether Friday.

2. SP Grayson Rodriguez

He hit a slight speed bump Saturday night but bounced back quite nicely to deliver a quality start.

Griffin’s Three Up:

3. SP Grayson Rodriguez

Excellent start, eight strikeouts always plays, but let up a few runs.

2. SP Corbin Burnes

I know Glenn hates putting runners on, but Corbin shows time and time again that it just doesn’t matter, very minimal runs score regardless. Plus, when half your walks are to Corey Seager, that doesn’t bother me one bit.

1. RF Anthony Santander

Scorching.

Glenn’s Three Down:

3. 1B Ryan Mountcastle

He was 0-8 with three strikeouts over two games and with so few options, that was enough to make the list.

2. RP Cionel Perez

Again, with minimal options, the guy that comes on to start an inning in a 7-2 game and promptly walks the first two batters is probably going to make the list.

1. SP Dean Kremer

The Orioles have.a problem. We can say that they’ll address their pitching at the deadline but adding a starter still leaves them short two starters. Kremer has to be better because he’s probably staying in the rotation past July 30.

Griffin’s Three Down:

3. SP Dean Kremer

He was not good yesterday, three significant runs coming on one hit in a bad inning. But, it was his most encouraging start since coming off the IL.

2. 1B Ryan Mountcastle

Maybe Andrew Heaney is just the Orioles kryptonite and it’s that simple, so if you can’t beat ’em, have ’em join you, that’s how the saying goes, right? But Mounty’s best attribute right now is his ability to hit lefties, he didn’t do that, in fact didn’t hit at all, and in a short week with few other options.

1. 2B Jorge Mateo

It’s been tough sledding for Jorge, he still plays a good second base, but what has happened to his game-changing speed? He doesn’t get on base and doesn’t even steal if he gets on now, we’re approaching a tipping point, amplified by the short week to analyze.

Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
