Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–Orioles bounce back after a sour ending last week in Houston and responded with a 4-3 week and avenging their ALDS loss, left lots of options but but still clear options for the top spot in both the up and down.

Without further adieu:

Glenn’s Three Up:

3. SS Gunnar Henderson

Just a ho-hum .393/.452/.679 week for him. Almost not even worth noticing, really.

2. SP Albert Suarez

With the back end of the rotation in DESPERATE need of production, he delivered. It’s not just that he allowed only three hits and didn’t walk anyone, it’s that he did it while hitting six innings for the first time as an Oriole.

1. OF Heston Kjerstad

He welcomed himself back by OPS-ing 1.488(!) over six games, including a fairly consequential grand slam Saturday.

Griffin’s Three Up:

3. SS Gunnar Henderson

There were a lot of guys that could go here, Cedric Mullins, Craig Kimbrel had an impressive week, strong starts from Grayson and Burnes, but he’s Gunnar Henderson, and he’s really good.

2. SP Albert Suarez

Hand up, I owe Big Al an apology, I wanted him relegated to the bullpen last week, and what he did Friday night, holding Texas to three hits over six innings, 0 runs(!), that was Big Al stuff.

1. OF Heston Kjerstad

What a week for the Kjid.

Glenn’s Three Down:

3. 3B Ramon Urias

I recognize that we’re talking about limited playing time but he was 0-10 and we’re kinda back to that place where with Coby Mayo mashing, we have to ask how valuable his roster spot is.

2. RP Yennier Cano

Thankfully he bounced back on Saturday night. But we don’t get to ignore what happened before Saturday night.

1. SP Cole Irvin

Griffin’s “two start” obsession obviously works this time. A disastrous week for Cole Irvin, posting a 2.22 WHIP in just 7.2 innings while giving up 13 runs (9 earned). If the weekend was an audition for who could end up in the bullpen when Dean Kremer returns, his spot is in jeopardy.

Griffin’s Three Down:

3. 3B Ramón Urías

Tough week, he doesn’t play much and hasn’t been too much of defensive liability this season but 0-for-10 will always stick out.

2. RP Yennier Cano

Not a good week, and looks like that’s all it is, but he was not good against Cleveland and Texas on Friday night.

1. SP Cole Irvin

Yikes, again. He hasn’t gotten through five innings in any of his last three starts and has been hit hard in all of them, that happened in multiple starts this week, which is a one-way ticket to being anti-Man of the Week.

Here’s a look at the season-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
