Here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always reflect on the Baltimore Ravens game in a more jovial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As you all are surely aware, the Ravens are coming out of another disappointing loss after blowing a two-score lead in the 2nd half, this time to an AFC North foe, the Cleveland Browns. As a result, we have some Helmet Slaps to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps on the Ass. That one player, or Coach, who one single Slap just doesn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. EDGE Kyle Van Noy
Should the Tillman hit have been flagged? Perhaps. But it was an unnecessary penalty that lead to points, so he makes the list.
4. DL Broderick Washington
Someone has to speak for the defensive line and everyone else did enough otherwise to avoid being on the list.
3. QB Lamar Jackson
He missed a would be touchdown to Zay Flowers, admitted the interception (intended for Rashod Bateman) was on him and just flatly got out-dueled by Deshaun Watson.
2. OT Ronnie Stanley
He gets to speak for the entire Offensive Line because he’s the one that’s Ronnie Stanley.
1. OC Todd Monken
Starting in the second quarter it just…kinda didn’t make sense. Why go tempo on 3rd & 2 when you’re moving methodically? Why the gadget play? Just a weird day in general.
Griffin’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. CB Brandon Stephens
I’m tired of seeing WRs make catches with Brandon Stephens trailing 5 yards away.
4. LB Patrick Queen
Missed tackles. David Njoku became a different animal but during the Browns 10-min drive, Queen missed several tackles.
3. LT Ronnie Stanley
Not many guys can block Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith, but Stanley is supposed to be that guy. He looks lost right now.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
The first interception was horrible. He missed a deep-ball touchdown to Zay Flowers, and seems reluctant to run the football.
1. HC John Harbaugh
There’s so many places this blame could go, but on top of delay of game penalty, there was the abandonment of the run-game (and use of Keaton Mitchell), plus, these blown leads are a trend, a very bad trend.
We also recapped the week in the GCR Picks Contest as we all aim to avoid being the ultimate loser. Here’s a look at the week’s results and updated standings:
