You know the drill! But if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
The Ravens are back to their streaking ways, after a 5-game win streak to get themselves above .500 and into first place in the AFC North, they’ve know dropped back-to-back divisional home games–most recent of which to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Time for our Slaps to the Helmet, here’s how Glenn and Griffin saw the game playing out and who we should be blaming:
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 14 Slaps:
5. WR Rashod Bateman
You have to catch that ball. Plain and simple. You have to.
4. CB Marlon Humphrey
It’s tough because, A-the first play was obviously a push off and B-it’s not like anyone else was much better. Still, rough day.
3. EDGE Mike Green
Can’t excuse him being a rookie anymore. You can’t let Aaron Rodgers at 42 duck underneath you. And while he probably shouldn’t be in coverage he has to be better.
2. Special Teams Coordinator Chris Horton
All of the other coaches and special teams players (save for Jordan Stout I guess) can breathe a sigh of relief. Everything is bad. Everything is unacceptable. The kicker is missing extra points and had one good kickoff. The kick returns aren’t generating anything. The punt returner won’t get up field. The last punt return produced a critical, game-changing penalty. It’s just all nightmarish.
1. OL Daniel Faalele (two slaps)
While the Echols sack stands out most, it was all a mess. All of it. It’s inexcusable. It’s unfathomable there can’t be another option. It’s just unmitigated.
Griffin Bass’s Week 14 Slaps:
5. RG Daniel Faalele
He’s bad, next.
4. EDGE Dre’mont Jones
0 sacks of a 42-year-old quarterback.
3. EDGE Mike Green
0 sacks of a 42-year-old quarterback.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
Not sure the best way to measure this with the Bateman drop, Andrews breaking up a would-be 4th down touchdown pass and the fact that the offensive line doesn’t block. But Lamar threw an awful interception that led to an easy Steelers touchdown and took a sack to the end game when you literally cannot take a sack. Plus the redzone offense is horrible and that’s how I arrive at my #1:
1. OC Todd Monken (two slaps)
Redzone offense is ranked 30th in the NFL, just behind the New York Giants and only ahead of the Houston Texans (who went 2/4 scoring TDs last night in Kansas City) and the New Orleans Saints. As the Yeah Yeah Yeahs so eloquently put it:
