You know the drill by now, but if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
Ravens fall to the Eagles 24-19 in a very frustrating loss to one the league’s heavyweights, so they fall to 8-5 on the season as they head into the bye week, as a result we have some Helmet Slaps to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps To The Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. DL Nnamdi Madubuike
It was tough to find two defensive players as the defense largely played well. But they needed big plays and there weren’t many of them. Madubuike is one of the guys they’re counting on for them and they just weren’t there yesterday.
4. EDGE Odafe Oweh
Similar story. Oweh has quietly put together a really good season. But particularly with Kyle Van Noy sidelined they needed at least that much from Oweh and they got all of…one tackle.
3. OL Daniel Faalele
Tyler Linderbaum gets left off the list because we can only include two offensive players but the interior of the Offensive Line was a massive story in this game and Faalele was a culprit.
2. OL Patrick Mekari
And Mekari was an even bigger culprit.
1. K Justin Tucker (two slaps)
Jordan Stout and Tylan Wallace can thank the rules of the game for not making the list.
Griffin’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. DE Tavius Robinson
Really struggled with that second defensive player, considered Hamilton for similar reasons to Madubuike, but the Eagles did a good job avoiding him. T-Rob is someone I’ve began expecting more of, so this is a more of compliment, the defensive front did not get much, if any, pressure without additional blitz help and Robinson was a regular rusher who did not impact Jalen Hurts. One pressure in 19 pass rush snaps.
4. QB Lamar Jackson
It’s going to have to be the Joe Burrow bit when one of the other two phases of the game is going to grade out at an F-minus minus. His mom was right, I think he was wise to run when he did, probably should have ran a few more times, namely the 4th and 8. Missed a few throws, Likely wide open on the corner route, and taking sacks on 3rd down while in field goal range forcing longer field goal attempts. Score more touchdowns.
3. OLB Odafe Oweh
Was a complete non-factor. 15 snaps? What the hell happened? He is a guy we’ve grown to expect things from and should expect things from.
2. OL Patrick Mekari
Was getting blown up at the line every single time. The Henry runs that were stopped in the backfield were because him, clearly struggling the most in pass protection as well. The offensive line didn’t play well, he was the main culprit.
1. K Justin Tucker (two slaps)
Cost us the game in my opinion. 7 points left on the board, and forced them to have to go for it on 4th + 8 in your own territory. Lot of other factors but he continues to stand out starkly.
The guys recapped the weekend in ‘Picks’ as well, here is a look at the results with the updated table, Glenn doing an excellent job of remaining firmly at the bottom:
