Baseball season is back! And with is the return of ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where Glenn and Griffin recap the week that was in Orioles baseball. It’s quite simple, Monday on GCR the boys will rank their top performing Orioles each week, and some of the worst performing birds of the previous week. Much like in baseball, we will go ‘Three Up and Three Down’ ranking the top three best and bottom three worst Orioles performers based specifically the most recent week of baseball.
Orioles getting swept by the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays began the week before the birds take two of three vs the struggling Tigers. Glenn and Griffin share their best and worst performers of the week, let’s see how the boys say the birds stacking up:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. SP Shane Baz
I recognize the Orioles won Brandon Young’s start but Baz’s was against the Rays. Just one run and five base runners over six innings. He absolutely should have won that game.
2. OF Colton Cowser
You don’t want to overreact too much because he only had four hits on the week. But given how bad things have been (and the significance of one of them), he gets the nod.
1. 1B Pete Alonso
He was on base 10 times for the week including the two home runs. This is the Pete Alonso the Orioles badly need.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. SP Brandon Young
He was very good yesterday in Game 1 of the doubleheader. He might’ve been great if he had a defense behind him.
2. SP Shane Baz
He was excellent in his return to the Trop. Too bad the bullpen wasn’t behind him, nor could he get more from the offense as this team refuses to give him run support.
1. 1B Pete Alonso
It was not all great, the defensive issues yesterday, the strikeouts or over-eager popouts in critical moments at the plate. But if he is going to hit two homers and drive in eight runs every week, we take that no questions asked. Plus he came on Glenn Clark Radio last week, and that matters!
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. RP Anthony Nunez
Nunez has been great this season. But the difference between the 2-4 week they had and a potential 3-3 week was the 8th inning against the Rays Wednesday night.
2. SP Trevor Rogers
11 earned runs on 12 hits and four walks over 8.1 innings in two starts. It’s just a complete mess.
1. OF Tyler O’Neill
He was almost as helpful to the Orioles this week as John Oliver.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. RP Anthony Nunez
It was a tough week for some reason to pin down who the third worst guy was, which is weird since they went 2-4, anyway it has to be Nunez unfortunately for his utter implosion in the Tampa finale.
2. RF Tyler O’Neill
O’Neill and the ‘O’ stands for ‘Oh, he just got out again.’
1. SP Trevor Rogers
Only thing preventing O’Neill from getting the boot here is how bad Rogers was not once, but twice.
The guys were off for Memorial Day this week, so no audio but here is an updated look at the season-long ‘Three Up and Three Down’ standings:
