Baseball season is back! And with is the return of ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where Glenn and Griffin recap the week that was in Orioles baseball. It’s quite simple, Monday on GCR the boys will rank their top performing Orioles each week, and some of the worst performing birds of the previous week. Much like in baseball, we will go ‘Three Up and Three Down’ ranking the top three best and bottom three worst Orioles performers based specifically the most recent week of baseball.

Orioles go a rather disappointing 3-3, they take two out of three in Kansas City, but then drop two out of three to the feeble Red Sox despite Boston firing their manager mid-series. Glenn and Griffin saw the top performers through the same lens but had a much different perspective on the guys who cost the Orioles games this week:

Glenn’s Three Up:

3. 1B Coby Mayo

Three Orioles OPS-ed over 1.300 this week so they were fairly easy choices. Just as we were starting to wonder if Mayo would ever click, he comes through with three home runs in three games.

2. C Adley Rutschman

In his return, he showed that his start to the season wasn’t a fluke. 7/17 with three home runs including two on Friday night.

1. C Samuel Basallo

The only way to be better than that would be to OPS over 1.600, as Basallo went 9/16 with a pair of home runs but also added 3 walks.

Griffin’s Three Up:

3. 3B Coby Mayo

If he’s figured it out, it’s a massive deal for this team. Just to be another feared power bat at a minimum.

2. C Adley Rutschman

Good to have him back, this is the version of Adley they need. Drove in 8 runs this week, hit in every game he played.

1. C Samuel Basallo

1.632 OPS while going 9-for-16 at the plate, plus the clutchest hit of the week Monday night in Kansas City.

Glenn’s Three Down:

3. SS Gunnar Henderson

I’m going to give Leody Taveras and Jeremiah Jackson both passes because of my expectation level. And while Gunnar did have a pair of home runs, he also had a staggering 11 strikeouts in a week where he hit .231. The terrifying part is that you might be able to call that progress. And things

2. SP Kyle Bradish

If you want to give him credit for limiting the damage, you’d say that he only allowed four runs over 10.1 innings. You’d be ignoring the 21 baserunners he allowed, but you could say it. The point is that there just isn’t a top of the rotation guy here…

1. SP Trevor Rogers

It’s probably not great if your “ace” can’t get out of the second inning because he’s already put six runners on base.

Griffin’s Three Down:

3. RP Keegan Akin

Good to have this guy back.

2. 3B Blaze Alexander

0-for on the week in 12 plate appearances. But at least he can play five positions right?

1. SP Trevor Rogers

Really glad we beat the rain and got that game in Saturday.
