You know the drill! But if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a ‘Pat On The Ass’ or ‘Slap To The Helmet.’
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
I wish I could say we’re surprised, but the Ravens dropped the ball in another one-sided loss Sunday as the Houston Texans won their first ever game in Baltimore in a rather convincing 44-10 spanking… As a result, Glenn and Griffin have some Helmet Slaps to hand out:
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn Clark’s Week 5 Slaps:
5. G Andrew Vorhees
It’s just not getting better.
4. G Daniel Faalele
Same story. The run blocking is a particular problem.
3. LB Trenton Simpson
This is more global than just yesterday. They invested a third round pick in Trenton Simpson. He’s in his third season. They desperately need more from him.
2. EDGE Odafe Oweh
Speaking of which.
1. DC Zachary Orr (two slaps)
It’s just plain untenable at this point.
Griffin Bass’s Week 5 Slaps:
5. DC Zach Orr
Really struggled with where to go here, another defensive player because they all played so poorly? Todd Monken for allowing Henry to be taken out of the equation? Harbaugh for his incongruencies and 4th down decision making? Orr’s defense sucked, he had 5 rookies starting and never once threw something unexpected at Stroud.
4. QB Cooper Rush
Just terrible. Three turnovers. He took one sack, it was horrendous. He’s just so glaringly inadequate.
3. CB TJ Tampa
I see a lot Brandon Stephens in him, and so did the Texans–targeting #27 a lot. He’s not that good in coverage, and the times he did cover well he refused to get his head around. Zero instincts.
2. C Tyler Linderbaum
The offensive line was terrible. I point to the one adult in the group, the guy you were going to have to lean on yesterday. He missed blocks (just like everyone else), and led this offense to 2.3 YPC. Plus, he stepped on the QB’s foot on a big play in the Red Zone. Nothing is good.
1. EDGE Odafe Oweh (two slaps)
He did not contribute. Barely played, (26 of 70 snaps, had zero pressures. Was left 1-on-1 on the outside almost every time and I didn’t see him win a single rep… The defense generated 6 total pressures all game on Stroud, half of them were Kyle Van Noy, who played less snaps than Oweh.
