You know the drill, but in case you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
The Ravens season sadly came to an end last night, they fall 27-25 in Buffalo and miss out on a chance at redemption against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship–as a result, one final Slaps on the Helmet to end the year…
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps to the Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps to the Helmet:
5. DL Nnamdi Madubuike
I moved this around a few times. In the end, Madubuike is speaking for the entire Defensive Line, which just got pushed around in the first half. He’s the most highly paid of the group so he’ll get to wear this.
4. QB Lamar Jackson
Yes, Lamar Jackson has to be on the list because of the two turnovers. Unquestionably. But we also can’t pretend that’s the entire story of his night. He played well enough to win despite them. But they were significant so this is the spot for him.
3. CB Brandon Stephens
They picked on him (unsurprisingly) early and the only “play” he made all night was one that would have been a penalty if only Josh Allen had made a better throw.
2. C Tyler Linderbaum
Dreadful night. We don’t assign turnovers to Offensive Linemen but a bad snap, getting pushed back to tackle your teammate and the overall lack of push in the first half all stand out.
1. TE Mark Andrews (two slaps)
This sucks, man.
Griffin’s Slaps to the Helmet:
5. DL Broderick Washginton
I thought the defense played well. Brandon Stephens didn’t even really cost them more than once or twice. The one thing the Bills did great, at least good enough, was run the football right up the middle, and Washington had one tackle to show for his efforts.
4. LB Roquan Smith
Same thing, Bills kept running it up the middle and got the exact yardage needed every time, there was no push into the backfield and this guy–paid like a top 2 MLB–was nowhere to be found last night.
3. C Tyler Linderbaum
Had a bad day, especially that one drive, he tripped Lamar getting blown up off the line of the scrimmage–which was not unique to just that play–and then the bad snap that led to Lamar’s fumble.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
Turned it over twice. So uncharacteristic. And the fumble was just so very bad, that was seven points for the Ravens and instead became seven points going the other direction.
1. TE Mark Andrews (two slaps)
Yep.
We also recapped the weekend in picks Monday, Glenn still in last place for now, but appears this race will come down to the end. Lots on the line in tonight’s National Championship with Jon Proctor on Notre Dame and Glenn on Ohio State:
