For the 16th consecutive year, Glenn Clark Radio and DrewsMorningDish.com are partnering to benefit Helping Up Mission. You all have been so insanely supportive of our efforts over the years.
If you don’t know, one morning in 2009 Drew Forrester and I were hosting our morning show on 1570am. Drew said “I feel like we should try to do something.” The idea was to collect coats. Drew wanted to simply drive them around the city and drop them off with folks that appeared to be cold. I told Drew I liked the idea “but I think we can do it better.” Enter Tony Young (“Tony from Rosedale”) who introduced us to HUM and the rest was history.
We’ve been collecting coats and clothes ever since with overwhelming results.
For the last two years, our coat drive has morphed into a collection of toiletries and underwear. Helping Up has asked us to continue collecting toiletries and underwear as those are the biggest needs.
So that’s where you come in. We’d love to have you stop by the studio with packages of toiletries and/or underwear and we’re hoping to organize an event to have you join us and meet a Ravens player as well. But in the meantime, we’re going to launch our annual “Help Us Help Helping Up” charity raffle and we’ve never had a better set of prizes.
First up, we have a Cal Ripken Jr. autographed 2,131 ball and a Cal Ripken Jr. autographed Orioles hat, courtesy of Cal himself and our friend John Maroon.
Next, we have autographed hockey pucks (complete with certificates of authenticity) from Washington Capitals stars Tom Wilson, “Captain America” T.J. Oshie and, yes, Alex Ovechkin.
Prize six is a Capitals prize pack with two replica 50th anniversary jerseys and a 50th anniversary pennant.
Prize seven is an autographed Zay Flowers photo, courtesy of the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation. You can also get your own at their “Holizay Party” December 9th.
Prizes eight and nine are two very special bobbleheads courtesy of our friends at FOCO. They have provided us two handcrafted, hand painted Cedric Mullins “Great Catch” bobbleheads.
