You know the drill by now, but if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
John Harbaugh improves to 3-0 vs Jim in the NFL now as the Ravens beat the Chargers on Monday Night Football in Los Angeles, as a result, we have some Ass Pats to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Pats on the Ass. That one player who one single Pat just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Pats on the Ass:
5. CB Nate Wiggins
Yes, the penalty on the punt was infuriating-but technically he’s a defensive player on this list and that happened on Special Teams. And while I considered Chris Board for this spot, I just thought Wiggins made enough plays early that he earned being on the list.
4. QB Lamar Jackson
I wanted to get clever here and leave him off the list in favor of someone like Patrick Ricard or one of the O-Lineman but that’s overthinking and doing too much. After a shaky start, Lamar was more than worthy of making the list.
3. RB Derrick Henry
While it’s a bummer that he didn’t get into the endzone, their commitment to Henry was one of the biggest stories of the game and he delivered.
2. LB Malik Harrison
My single biggest concern going into the game was the middle of the field without Roquan Smith being out there. Harrison was stellar aside from the first drive.
1. HC John Harbaugh
Yes, going for it from his own 16 will stand out most and is the biggest reason he’s on the list. BUT it’s not just that. They made adjustments across the board.
Griffin’s Pats on the Ass:
5. LB Malik Harrison
The first drive was certainly shaky, and didn’t love the sequence at the end of the first half allowing the Chargers to get in FG range. But yes he flipped a switch in the second half and settled in. It helped that JK Dobbins left the game and they stopped targeting the middle of the field too. Definitely made some big hits and tackles.
4. CB Nate Wiggins
This was a massive test for him, played over 75% of the snaps, was targeted 10 times and let up 5 catches for 66 yards according to PFF, but he never got his top blown off, had a couple big PBUs. The secondary stepping up was story of the game for the defense, Wiggins impressed me most.
3. QB Lamar Jackson
Just a ho-hum 3 TD game. Essentially perfect from the 2nd quarter on.
2. HC John Harbaugh
Maybe he needs to pretend like he’s coaching against his brother every week. We’ve been critical of him, rightfully so, a lot this season, but you have to give him his flowers here. I was a huge fan of the 4th and 1 go for it call in the 2nd quarter, set the tone the rest of the night. Great play design too, and never got away from running the ball.
1. RB Derrick Henry
Again, just the perfect closer. Underrated situation was getting the ball back with 6:30 left in the game, only picked up 1 first down but ate up 3.5 minutes of the clock and forced LA to take two timeouts so they only had one left when they got the ball back with 3 minutes to go. Plus the double stiff arm and 4th and 1 conversions are all part of the Derrick Henry experience, which is pretty fun.
The guys recapped the weekend in ‘Picks’ as well on Monday, here is the updated table with NFL Week 12 officially in the books:
