You know the drill by now, but if you’re new, here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always try to reflect on the most recent Ravens game in a more convivial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
The Ravens can’t escape Pittsburgh, they lose 18-16 and add yet another AFC North loss to a record that now falls to 7-4 on the season, as a result we have some Helmet Slaps to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Slaps To The Helmet. That one player who one single Slap just wouldn’t sit right.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. CB Brandon Stephens
The difference between his “playing tight coverage” and Tre’Davious White’s “playing the ball” stood out significantly on the moonballs.
4. LB Malik Harrison
Roquan Smith showed up today. The drop-off to Harrison (as unexpected) was stark after he got hurt.
3. QB Lamar Jackson
Look man, the story of the game is NOT that Lamar Jackson played poorly. He didn’t play particularly well but he sure as hell wasn’t helped. Still, the early misses on plays that were there for Diontae Johnson and Zay Flowers stand out and his seeming disinterest in running when lanes were available later in the first half is noteworthy as well.
2. OL Patrick Mekari
He was flagged four times, twice for being downfield early, another for a hold and lastly an unnecessary roughness (that to be fair was offset). On a day where penalties were the story, he carries the most guilt.
1. K Justin Tucker
It sucks beyond sucks.
Griffin’s Slaps To The Helmet:
5. LB Malik Harrison
Once Roquan came out Darnell Washington began carving up the middle of the field, plus Jaylen Warren started gashing them in the run-game in the 4th quarter. The defense played well, it was tough to pick two guys.
5. CB Brandon Stephens
He’s not a very good cornerback. Had no business trying to cover Pickens yesterday.
3. RB Derrick Henry
Parameters of the game force me to pick two offensive players. Henry put the ball on the ground on the second snap of the game.
2. TE Isaiah Likely
Had a really impactful day. Unfortunately the biggest impact he had was coughing up the football deep in the Ravens own territory 30 seconds before halftime. It was close, and to the people’s whom opinions matter, it was fumble. And sure, credit to Pat Queen, too.
1. K Justin Tucker
Not one, but two missed field goals–in a two-point game.
The guys recapped the week in ‘Picks’ as well, here is a look at the results with the updated table, Glenn remains firmly on the bottom, but a familiar face in Andrew Stetka looks to join him soon…
