Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically. It’s another Three Up and Three Down week for the birds themselves, with the offense going dormant over the better part of the week.
Oh and good news! Three Up And Three Down is now presented by Costas Inn! Every Monday we’ll be giving away a $50 gift card for someone who participates so you can try delicious things like THE CRAB TOWER.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. SP Cade Povich
I know it was the White Sox but it was also completely and totally dominant.
2. SS Gunnar Henderson
Nice to have him (1.297 OPS) back.
1. OF Cedric Mullins
Even nicer to have him (1.342 OPS) even backer.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. CF Cedric Mullins
I decided to rule out Cade Povich because it was against the White Sox (even though they did put up nine runs the next night) but Cedric has had such a strong turnaround since his miserable start to the season and was one of two guys hitting this week.
2. SP Dean Kremer
Friday night’s start was tremendous, taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning, especially considering I thought for sure he would need an IL-stint just five days ago after he get hit on the wrist in Colorado. Slightly ahead of Povich and Yennier Cano for best pitching performance of the week.
1. SS Gunnar Henderson
As I’ve said before, he’s Gunnar Henderson, he’s the totality of their offense, would be great if someone, anyone, in the top half of the lineup decided to join him.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SP Albert Suárez
And it’s so much worse because it was the White Sox.
2. 2B Jackson Holliday
I realize Jackson Holliday will be a good baseball player. It’s just disappointing that he hasn’t proven to be the quickly developed game changer we had true reason to believe he could be.
1. C Adley Rutschman
It’s not fun to talk about. I understand the value of having a switch hitter in the number two spot but that switch hitter has to be a threat to hit.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. 1B Ryan O’Hearn
Could’ve been Big Al, but the story of the week was the garbage offense. I expect more from O’Hearn, this was another bad week for him, he’s a platoon guy and thrives with Ryan Mountcastle on this team.
2. 2B Jackson Holliday
I fear we’re reverting back to what he looked like back in April. I guess he’s not striking out quite as much, only when guys are on base now.
1. C Adley Rutschman
*Sigh* not really sure what to say, just need to hope moving down in the lineup will help him reset.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week (then 2 points and 1 point), -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week (then -2 points and -1 point):
