Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–this week the birds went three up, three down themselves and pitching once again dominates the rankings.
Oh and good news! Three Up And Three Down is now presented by Costas Inn! Every Monday we’ll be giving away a $50 gift card for someone who participates so you can try delicious things like THE CRAB TOWER.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. SS Gunnar Henderson
I came THIS close to making it all pitchers again this week. But the four home runs were enough to warrant this spot.
2. SP Albert Suárez
It makes no sense. I don’t know if it can continue. But I can’t pretend like it isn’t happening.
1. SP Zach Eflin
This acquisition looks more and more brilliant by the moment.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. RP Seranthony Dominguez
Let up the home run yesterday which ultimately did not matter, but the first time one player has converted multiple save opportunities (and no blown saves this week!) since Craig Kimbrel the first week of July. It feels so great to have confidence in the 9th inning again.
2. SP Big Albert Suárez
Literally since the moment Grayson went down, all he’s done is shove. This scoreless streak is so improbable, I’m going to bask in it.
1. SS Gunnar Henderson
Home runs are cool, and he was the offense this week.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. RP Craig Kimbrel
We’re veering into “maybe it isn’t crazy to talk about him getting DFA’d” territory.
2. SP Trevor Rogers
If things go south again Monday night, there is a legitimate argument to be about whether Cade Povich should take his spot.
1. SP Corbin Burnes
Woof.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. RP Craig Kimbrel
When can you use this guy? This is such a tough conversation to have. I’m of the belief that Craig Kimbrel is part of the solution, and if this team wins a World Series, he contributes. Right now, it’s really bad, but I’m still not close to a DFA.
2. SP Trevor Rogers
Just disappointing, especially against a team he’s historically been effective against. We’re approaching a point where you’re not even positive you can keep sending him out there every 5th or 6th day.
1. SP Corbin Burnes
It was just so un-Corbin-Burnes-like. Walking guys, letting up multiple home runs, and now I have all these worthless bobbleheads. Worst performance of the week.
You can listen as Glenn and Griffin dish out their ‘Three Up and Three Down’ for the week and their in-depth discussion on Craig Kimbrel’s role in the Orioles bullpen:
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week (then 2 points and 1 point), -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week (then -2 points and -1 point):
