Here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always reflect on the Baltimore Ravens game in a more jovial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
As you know, the Ravens beat the Seahawks 37-3 in Baltimore Sunday and as a result, we have some Ass Pats to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Pats on the Ass. That one player who one single Pat just wouldn’t sit right. Ryan Chell was in for Griffin Monday so he joined us.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Week 9 Pats on the Ass:
5. DC Mike Macdonald
The Seahawks were functional for all of one offensive play. I have no choice but to include Mike McDonald.
4. C Tyler Linderbaum
If you run for 300 yards, an Offensive Lineman has to make the list. Tyler Linderbaum’s road grading on Keaton Mitchell’s big run gets him the spot.
3. S Geno Stone
It wasn’t just the pick. He was active for the whole of the game.
2. EDGE Kyle Van Noy
There was only one moment during the game when anything was in doubt-late in the first half when the Seahawks got the ball back with a chance to make it a one score game. Van Noy ended all of that.
1. RB Keaton Mitchell (Man Of The Match)
Just the coolest story ever.
Griffin’s Week 9 Pats on the Ass:
5. TE Mark Andrews
He’s still the guy on the third down, love that everyone is involved in pass game but he’s clearly the safety blanket and somehow always open.
4. LB Kyle Van Noy
Strip sack was great, everyone on the front 7 had a tremendous game, to pick just one is tough and KVN caused a turnover.
3. C Tyler Linderbaum
The team ran for 298 yards, Linderbaum may have had the highlight of the day on Mitchell’s 60 yarder.
2. S Geno Stone
Impresses me every week and he’s allowed Kyle Hamilton to play more freely. Plus, apparently, he’s the best ball hawk in football right now.
1. RB Keaton Mitchell
What a debut. I know it’s actually his second game but what a welcome to the NFL.
Ryan Chell’s Week 9 Pats On The Ass:
5. C Tyler Linderbaum
On Keaton Mitchell’s big run yesterday, Linderbaum blocked the same dude twice, another dude, and then could have probably blocked the whole Seahawks 53-man roster and Mitchell would have standing up. We talk about saving money for Geno Stone, Patrick Queen, and Justin Madubuike – it might be time to put some money in the piggy bank for Linderbaum.
4. CB Marlon Humphrey
He may not have shown up in the box score yesterday, but I put him on my list because of the Nnamdi Asomugha effect. If you’re not talking about him and the receivers he covered (Lockett and Metcalf – combined for 4 catches for 82 yards)
3. S Geno Stone
The Ravens continue to have luck with Iowa players. It’s the feel good story right now for this Ravens team, and while I think he’s the next guy to get priced out of Baltimore, I’ll take his contributions in and out of the box score right now. He allows Marcus Williams to take his time coming back.
2. QB Lamar Jackson
This may not have been one of his memorable games, but he doesn’t get to sit out the 4th quarter unless he runs this offense the way it was drawn up. We saw last year what this offense looks like without him and I think we all had a sigh of relief when he told John Harbaugh he was okay after having a slight limp.
1. DC Mike Macdonald
The funniest thing lately on social media right now are Ravens fans saying how much he sucks to try and hide any potential interest another NFL GM might have in poaching him to be their head coach. How ironic is it a year ago after the Dolphins game – Ravens fans were ready to run him out of town, and now we’re trying to build a privacy curtain to hide him from the NFL coaching circuit.
We also recapped the week in the GCR Picks Contest as Griffin bounced back a bit and our friend Paul Valle moves into the Scott Stapp role…
