Baseball season is back! And with is the return of ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where Glenn and Griffin recap the week that was in Orioles baseball. It’s quite simple, Monday on GCR the boys will rank their top performing Orioles each week, and some of the worst performing birds of the previous week. Much like in baseball, we will go ‘Three Up and Three Down’ ranking the top three best and bottom three worst Orioles performers based specifically the most recent week of baseball.
Orioles follow up a 5-1 week with an extremely disappointing 2-5 performance over the last seven days, dropping two out of three to the Arizona Diamondbacks before heading to Cleveland to lose three out of four to the Guardians. Here’s how the guys ranked the birds for the past week with several more options on the ‘down’ the list than the ‘up’ list:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. OF Leody Taveras
He had 22 plate appearances this week. He got on base in 11 of them. He is obviously this team’s center fielder until someone proves otherwise.
2. RP Rico Garcia
Maybe they just let him be all time pitcher?
1. INF Jeremiah Jackson
He’s not going to hit four home runs every week (I don’t think). It was oddly promising that he finally took a walk. He clearly needs to be in the lineup. We’ll figure out exactly what he is over the coming weeks. But I’m going to choose to remain excited for now.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. CF Leody Taveras
He is this team’s Centerfielder, plain and simple. One of the most consistent guys on the team right now.
2. RP Rico Garcia
It’s really nice to know who is pitching the 8th inning every single night, no matter what.
1. 2B Jeremiah Jackson
That’s Jeremiah “Bonds” Jackson to you.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. OF Dylan Beavers
2-16 with six strikeouts for the week. He was not a particularly inspiring pinch hitter.
2. OF Colton Cowser
The only way it could be worse is if you’re 1-17 with seven strikeouts and a completely uninspiring “Designated Hitter.”
1. SP Trevor Rogers
In a world where the Orioles have an ace, that stopper pitches twice this week and helps the Orioles win two games they might not have otherwise. If that had happened, they would have been 4-3 for the week. I won’t panic about the two starts but maybe we got a little too carried away.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. 3B Coby Mayo
I mean yeesh. It’d be way more encouraging if he was hitting and not fielding. Fielding and not hitting was not on my bingo card, especially his at-bats being this miserable.
2. SP Trevor Rogers
Yeah not great, but he gets a pass from me on being #1 this week, just this one time though.
1. OF Colton Cowser
The Moo’s are going to start sounding like something else. He’s uncompetitive at the plate and at this point, he is going to have to go somewhere else to figure this out.
