It’s been a few years now, but we’ve decided to bring it back, Griffin got sick of Glenn mentioning this segment “that we used to do” so the guys revived it entirely. Tuesday following Sunday’s game, we will sit down and map out the Five Plays That Told The Story Of Sunday’s Game.

It’s as simple as it sounds, if the Ravens lose, we’ll pick the five plays that we perceived embodied the loss, not all necessarily scoring plays, sometimes no scoring plays. And of course on the inverse, when the Ravens win, the five plays that most embodied the win.

With the Ravens losing 29-24 in Cleveland, Griffin and Glenn will both count down in sequential order of the five plays they believed to tell the story of Sunday’s game.

Glenn’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:

5. 4th & 8 at CLE 32 (13:03 – 4th) J. Tucker 50 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Left, Center-N. Moore, Holder-J. Stout

I wrestled with which play should be number five and in a way, it feels like cheating here. It sorta references the entire sequence, which includes Ronnie Stanley’s penalty and Rashod Bateman’s drop, either of which would have made/kept this a more manageable kick. Still, it was three points off the board that they could have used.

4. 4th & 1 at CLE 7 (8:48 – 1st) (Shotgun) Direct snap to D. Henry. D. Henry right guard to CLV 9 for -2 yards

It’s hard to say that a first quarter play “told the story” of a win or loss. But in hindsight, it was points off the board that made a serious difference AND it invited the Browns to feel their way into the game. The play call was dreadful, but the result was problematic no matter what the call had been.

3. 3rd & 21 at CLE 31 (12:04 – 2nd) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass incomplete deep right to Z. Flowers

This is also tough because it’s hard to assume a 3rd & 21 completion. But It was there. Flowers was open. Seven points were to be had. Lamar has made these throws all season. He just didn’t make this one.

2. 3rd & 14 at BAL 15 (9:30 – 4th) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass incomplete deep middle to R. Bateman

Just brutal. WIth a chance to not only convert but flip the field and be in position to at least tie if not ultimately re-take the lead, this was a killer. Yes, the sun was a factor and he appeared to slip but still, this was a killer.

1. 1st & 15 at BAL 38 (1:08 – 4th) (Shotgun) J. Winston pass incomplete short right to E. Moore

Yes, the read out doesn’t really tell the story. It says Elijah Moore was the intended receiver but that wasn’t who the ball was thrown to. The ball was thrown to Kyle Hamilton. Right to him. With the game on the line. It’s tough because Hamilton had an otherwise great day. But this was the most volatile moment of the game, with a win in his grasp.

Griffin’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:

5. 1st & 10 at BAL 13 (2:09 – 1st) J.Winston pass incomplete short left to E.Moore

It came in the 1Q, but this was the first of Eddie Jackson’s dropped interceptions. I believe this play does a great job a telling the story of what happened Sunday, Jameis has all do in the pocket to throw, the Ravens not getting any pressure, he takes a shot at the EZ to… no one. The play-by-play above indicates that Elijah Moore was in the area, that’s generous, all it did was hit Eddie Jackson in the hands, and he dropped it. A good summary of the afternoon, Jameis would make a mistake and the Ravens defense unable to capitalize. The drive would end in a field goal, giving the Browns a 3-0 lead in the 1Q.

4. 4th & 1 at CLE 7 (8:48 – 1st) (Shotgun) Direct snap to D.Henry. D.Henry right guard to CLV 9 for -2 yards

Glenn got it all. I don’t have really an issue with going for it on 4th and 1, but this cannot be the play call, you cannot take the ball out of Lamar Jackson’s hands with 1 yard to gain ever.

3. 3rd & 5 at BAL 22 (2:01 – 3rd) (Shotgun) J.Winston pass short middle to C.Tillman for 22 yards, TOUCHDOWN. D.Hopkins extra point is GOOD

Another critical defensive miscue. This was Cedric Tillman’s first touchdown of the day and put the Browns up 20-17 late in the 3Q. The defense was confused before and after the snap, and highlights a very ugly afternoon for Jalyn Armour-Davis who gets burned inside and then Eddie Jackson misses the tackle at the goal line.

2. 3rd & 14 at BAL 15 (9:30 – 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass incomplete deep middle to R.Bateman

What concerns me is if this could have any lasting effects on Lamar and Bateman’s connection on the football field. Lamar didn’t go back to Bateman the rest of the game, he was visibly upset. Could very easily erase all the progress made the first seven weeks of the season.

1. 1st & 15 at BAL 38 (1:08 – 4th) (Shotgun) J.Winston pass incomplete short right to E.Moore

A play you need to have. Hamilton had the win in his hands and he dropped it.
