Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–the O’s go 5-3 in a long week, ending on a high note with two strong offensive performances versus the American League-leading Cleveland Guardians.

Oh and good news! Three Up And Three Down is now presented by Costas Inn! Every Monday we’ll be giving away a $50 gift card for someone who participates so you can try delicious things like THE CRAB TOWER.

Without further adieu:

Glenn’s Three Up:

3. SS Gunnar Henderson

Look, the defensive issue are still perplexing. But this team seems to go as Gunnar goes offensively, so it’s been really good to have Gunnar going again (1.179 OPS this week).

2. OF Colton Cowser

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of what Colton did at the All-Star break so that we might send every player to do the same every year for the rest of time?

1. 2B Jackson Holliday

It’s a good thing Cowser is so absurdly hot at the moment because if he wasn’t, Holliday (1.254 OPS in his return!) might be the Rookie of the Year favorite again.

Griffin’s Three Up:

3. SP Zach Eflin

Sure, Monday wasn’t a Cy Young performance, but he worked through it, and it was a weird Monday afternoon game, against a divisional opponent he’s familiar with. Then Saturday was what you make that deal for. Excellent debutant week.

2. SS Gunnar Henderson

It’s good to have Gunnar Henderson back.

1. RF Anthony Santander

Just set it and forget it. He’s been the team’s best bat for over a month now.

Glenn’s Three Down:

3. DH Ryan O’Hearn

It’s so rare that O’Hearn has a down week that before I looked at the stats, I hadn’t even considered him for the list. He was just 4/22 this week with seven strikeouts. But even his bad week was still good enough for a .310 OBP, a testament to his consistency.

2. RP Gregory Soto

Two appearances probably shouldn’t be enough to make a list but like, geez. Not the most ideal of first impressions as he recorded just three outs while surrendering four hits and two walks, allowing five earned runs.

1. SP Trevor Rogers

Just a brutal way to debut, particularly with so much consternation about the acquisition to begin with.

Griffin’s Three Down:

3. SP Cade Povich

I understand it’s the ‘I’m not even supposed to be here’ thing but man, that was bad, 5 walks, 7 hits, losing to the Blue Jays. It was opportunity and he did not show up.

2. 1B Ryan Mountcastle

It was a tough week to pinpoint to hard on anyone offensively, and Mounty went cold in Cleveland, three strikeouts in the opener Thursday namely.

1. SP Trevor Rogers

Magnified by what was given up, but would’ve been no. 1 regardless. Let’s hope this start is completely forgotten.

Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
