Baseball season is back! And with is the return of ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where Glenn and Griffin recap the week that was in Orioles baseball. It’s quite simple, Monday on GCR the boys will rank their top performing Orioles each week, and some of the worst performing birds of the previous week. Much like in baseball, we will go ‘Three Up and Three Down’ ranking the top three best and bottom three worst Orioles performers based specifically the most recent week of baseball.
Orioles bounce back with a strong 5-1 week after dropping five of six the previous few week where they sweep the White Sox in Chicago before returning home to take two of three from the San Francisco Giants. Here’s how the guys saw the squad stacking up, with the positives out-weighing the negatives significantly:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. SP Cade Povich
It absolutely kills me to leave both Rico Garcia and Anthony Nunez (who were spectacular) off this list. But in a 5-1 week, you’re gonna have a lot of candidates. Cade Povich was spectacular Sunday (one run, five hits, no walks over 6.2IP) and it came in a huge moment after three straight rough starts from Kyle Bradish, Shane Baz and Chris Bassitt. Absolutely massive.
2. SS Gunnar Henderson
Really hard to ignore the four home runs. The World Baseball Classic has clearly carried over and he looks like the “MVP candidate” version of himself.
1. OF Taylor Ward
Six doubles was one thing but TAYLOR WARD PLAYS DEFENSE NOW???
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. SP Cade Povich
What a revelation this could be. An excellent start yesterday, the best of anyone in the rotation this week.
2. LF Taylor Ward
A two-hole hitter (Taylor’s version).
1. SS Gunnar Henderson
Last week I asked what would Gunnar have to do to make this list? Well, this was a pretty emphatic response, the team goes 5-1, and as the dust settles Gunnar is atop the AL home run leaderboard.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SP Shane Baz
11 baserunners over five innings is really nasty business.
2. SP Kyle Bradish
Yes, he got through five innings but he put nine baserunners on in those five innings and the way the fifth inning finished was disastrous.
1. 1B Pete Alonso
There’s reason to believe Sunday could prove to be the turning point after a brutal start though.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. RP Nick Raquet
Who?
2. 1B Pete Alonso
It unfortunately cannot be ignored. Uncompetitive at times, hopefully Sunday was a step in the right direction.
1. RF Tyler O’Neill
Run out the f***ing play.
