Griffin convinced Glenn to revive the segment last season after a hiatus from the program for a few years, and it’s relatively simple how it works: on Tuesdays following Sunday’s game, we will sit down and map out the Five Plays That Told The Story Of Sunday’s Game.
It’s as simple as it sounds, if the Ravens lose, we’ll pick the five plays that we perceived embodied the loss, not all necessarily scoring plays, sometimes no scoring plays. And of course on the inverse, when the Ravens win, the five plays that most embodied the win.
The Ravens have reset the season and are now back to .500 following a road win over the Cleveland Browns, not much about the 23-16 win was pretty, but in the NFL, a win is a win. It was a Tuesday following a Ravens game, so here are the Five Plays That Told The Story of the game according Glenn Clark and Griffin Bass:
Glenn’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:
5. 6:40 – 2nd (1st & 10 at CLE 48) L. Jackson pass deep right to Z. Flowers to CLV 3 for 45 yards (D. Ward).
This stood out because the Ravens had fallen behind 13-3 after the pick six and the Browns clearly had momentum. It also stood out because it ended up being the one time they capitalized in the red zone all day.
4. 8:40 – 4th (3rd & 10 at BAL 35) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass deep middle to Z. Flowers to CLV 47 for 18 yards (C. Schwesinger).
Trailing 16-13 in the fourth quarter, Lamar had just been sacked two plays before and they were faced with 2nd & 19. After a nice Keaton Mitchell run, this was a massive play that would set them up for the game tying field goal.
3. 4:45 – 4th (3rd & 10 at CLE 20) (Shotgun) S. Sanders pass incomplete short right (T. Simpson). PENALTY on CLV-S. Sanders, Intentional Grounding, 15 yards, enforced at CLV 20. Penalty on CLV-K. Leveston, Offensive Holding, declined.
This was the difference between punting from the 20 and punting from the 5. The Ravens would take over at the Browns’ 44, already on the edge of a go-ahead score.
2. 1:08 – 4th (3rd & 5 at BAL 25) (Shotgun) S. Sanders pass incomplete deep left to G. Larvadain (C. Awuzie).
While the 4th down stop was the ultimate finishing play, this one was far more remarkable. I was sitting in the endzone where this play occurred and the crowd ERUPTED because it definitely appeared to be a touchdown before they recognized that Awuzie managed to get the ball out.
1. 2:31 – 4th (4th & 1 at CLE 35) Direct snap to M. Andrews. M. Andrews right end for 35 yards, TOUCHDOWN. T. Loop extra point is GOOD, Center-N. Moore, Holder-J. Stout.
A play we’ll remember for a long time from a game we would have otherwise forgotten quickly
Griffin’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:
5. 45-yd Pass. 6:40 – 2nd. L.Jackson pass deep right to Z.Flowers to CLV 3 for 45 yards (D.Ward). 1st & 10 at CLE 48
Set up a Derrick Henry touchdown, and more importantly gave the Ravens a pulse again after pick six. The team kind of needed it.
4. Interception. 4:44 – 3rd. (Shotgun) S.Sanders pass short right intended for J.Jeudy INTERCEPTED by N.Wiggins [K.Van Noy] at CLV 30. N.Wiggins pushed ob at CLV 16 for 14 yards (M.Corley). 3rd & 10 at CLE 17
When you’re talking about plays that told the story, this was it: beautifully schemed up pressure, Van Noy gets a free-hitter at Shedeur, on 3rd down, and the Browns make a massive mistake. Really sucks they couldn’t turn this into points.
3. 15-yd Penalty. 4:45 – 4th. (Shotgun) S.Sanders pass incomplete short right [T.Simpson].PENALTY on CLV-S.Sanders, Intentional Grounding, 15 yards, enforced at CLV 20.Penalty on CLV-K.Leveston, Offensive Holding, declined. 3rd & 10 at CLE 20
Another intentional grounding stealing a sack away from the Ravens, but it forced a three and out right after the Ravens tied the game and now they get the ball back with really great field position.
2. 18-yd Pass. 8:40 – 4th. (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass deep middle to Z.Flowers to CLV 47 for 18 yards (C.Schwesinger). 3rd & 10 at BAL 35
Huge play. Ravens were still trailing and Myles Garrett was closing in on his 5th sack, then Lamar finds Zay, wide open.

1. 35-yd Touchdown Run. 2:31 – 4th. Direct snap to M.Andrews. M.Andrews right end for 35 yards, TOUCHDOWN. T.Loop extra point is GOOD, Center-N.Moore, Holder-J.Stout. 4th & 1 at CLE 35
