Glenn and Griffin are bringing back our tradition we started last year for this 2025 baseball season Mondays on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically.
Tough week this time around as the O’s go 2-4, dropping two of three up in Philadelphia to the NL East-leading Phillies before coming home and dropping two of three to the Athletics during Orioles Hall of Fame weekend… without further adieu, yet another ‘Three Up and Three Down’ from the guys:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. C Adley Rutschman
In a week where it was difficult to find a third player, Rutschman did get on base nine times in 23 plate appearances and yeah, that’s where we’re at. He did have the big blow in one of the two games they actually won as well. So there’s that.
2. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
This is one of those weird moments where someone’s success is actually more frustrating. Sugano was great (one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings) against the Athletics, but what does that give you, exactly?
1. SP Trevor Rogers
Noteworthy.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. 1B Coby Mayo
Had the highest batting average on the team for the week. Plus he had the BIG home run in Philly, and that pinch-hit double was electric for about two minutes.
2. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
7 innings, just one run–pretty good–with the caveat that it was against the A’s.
1. SP Trevor Rogers
Completely shutdown one of the best offenses in baseball, and made Kyle Schwarber–a legit MVP candidate–look silly and frustrated.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SS Gunnar Henderson
It was a ho-hum week offensively (.686 OPS) and combined with this throw, the expectations are just plain higher for him.
2. RP Keegan Akin
I guess maybe Keegan Akin ISN’T the next Mariano Rivera? I’m as surprised as you.
1. SP Brandon Young
I know the Orioles don’t really have any other starting pitching options but it’s definitely time to see if he has something to offer out of the bullpen.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. OF Dylan Carlson
I’m not able to get on Gunnar for a play that was equally bad from Alex Jackson like Glenn, but Dylan Carlson is working on a Chris Davis 0-for streak right now and as much as he is obviously not apart of this thing moving forward, it’s some of the worst baseball on the team.
2. SP Brandon Young
The magnifying glass is getting bigger, because this is a real opportunity for guys like Brandon Young, Saturday night was predictable and extremely disappointing.
1. 2B Jackson Holliday
Speaking of guys who have high expectations and need to start producing: 2-for-21 is not going to hack it.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week (then 2 points and 1 point), -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week (then -2 points and -1 point):
