Glenn and Griffin are bringing back our tradition we started last year for this 2025 baseball season Mondays on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically.
Orioles follow up their first 3-win week of the season with a 1-5 performance falling to the Nats before getting swept in Detroit. Despite the disappointment, we’ll still do our Three Up and Three Down for the week:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
A miserable inning turned into a quality start that was deserving of a better fate.
2. 1B Ryan O’Hearn
It was nice of someone to hit a little bit.
1. SP Cade Povich
He got them their win. So obviously he gets to be number one.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. RP Felix Bautista
That was a legitimate high leverage, one-run lead, save situation against the Nats Thursday night and he came through. Felt good.
2. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
I really like the zero walks, again. Seven innings is nice too. Too bad he didn’t get any offense, which ironically was the problem this week.
1. SP Cade Povich
[insert Aaron Taylor-Johnson Quicksilver gif from Avengers: Age Ultron “You Didn’t See That Coming”]
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. SP/RP Charlie Morton
Charlie Kimbrel.
2. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
I just don’t think they’d get a lot in a trade return at the moment. Probably not even Ryan Mountcastle.
1. OF Heston Kjerstad
The problem is that Heston heard the Orioles wanted to be .500 and he thought that meant their strikeout rate. (No seriously, 10 in 20 plate appearances.)
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
Just swinging at everything, every at-bat looks uncompetitive. I’d rather see O’Hearn play every night. Someone said maybe those trade rumors are in his head now, and that could be true, which really sucks.
2. OF Heston Kjerstad
1-for-20 on the week. This was supposed to be his chance to seize an opportunity with Cowser hurt, he’s playing everyday, not that terrible defensively, but a horrendous week. 10 strikeouts is very, VERY bad.
1. SP Dean Kremer
At least he pitched into the sixth inning in both starts this week.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week (then 2 points and 1 point), -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week (then -2 points and -1 point):
