Glenn and Griffin are bringing back our tradition we started last year for this 2025 baseball season Mondays on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically.
Orioles come through with their first 3-win week of the season as the go 3-3, taking their first series win of the season against Cleveland before dropping two of three against the Reds in a finale that we hopefully never have to think about again… Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. OF Heston Kjerstad
It was a close call between Kjerstad, Ryan O’Hearn and Ramón Laureano, particularly since Kjerstad had just 11 plate appearances. But his uptick is perhaps the most promising of the group so I gave him the slight nod.
2. OF Cedric Mullins
Gunnar Henderson will probably end up being their best position player before the season is over but for right now, it remains Cedric with a bullet.
1. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
The Orioles need one pitcher. Any pitcher. Five baserunners over seven innings made Tomo Sugano a pitcher last week. May it continue.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. 1B/RF Ryan O’Hearn
Some big home runs, gave them the lead Thursday, and also came on our program that day.
2. SP Tomoyuki Sugano
This is what an ace of a staff looks like, in Baltimore at least. Zero walks is seriously outstanding.
1. CF Cedric Mullins
Only guy consistently showing up, and I like home runs. Maybe, just maybe, he should leadoff every night no matter what.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. RP Cionel Pérez
Respite for Jordan Westburg (who finally came to life over the weekend) and Adley Rutschman (who IS hitting the hell out of the ball with bad luck) as Pérez continues to be completely ineffective and his roster spot unjustifiable.
2. SP Cade Povich
Unfortunately the same can be said for Povich, who we believe could be a pitcher. But after getting shelled by the Reds Friday night, his WHIP is over 2.
1. SP Charlie Morton
Just an unfathomable disaster.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. SP Cade Povich
Friday night was awful. Couldn’t get out of the fourth inning and still had time to walk five different batters… 😷
2. RF Tyler O’Neill
I don’t care that he only had 12 at-bats this week, frankly that’s part of the issue. His one job is to HIT LEFTIES! He struck out all three times he faced Abbott Friday night and has struck out at least twice in each of his four games. Not even looking competitive.
1. SP Charlie Morton
This is comical, and it’s not Charlie Morton who should be here, it’s Mike Elias.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. Scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week (then 2 points and 1 point), -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week (then -2 points and -1 point):
