It’s been a few years now, but we’ve decided to bring it back, Griffin got sick of Glenn mentioning this segment “that we used to do” so the guys revived it entirely. On Tuesdays following Sunday’s game, we will sit down and map out the Five Plays That Told The Story Of Sunday’s Game.

It’s as simple as it sounds, if the Ravens lose, we’ll pick the five plays that we perceived embodied the loss, not all necessarily scoring plays, sometimes no scoring plays. And of course on the inverse, when the Ravens win, the five plays that most embodied the win.

The Ravens dropped another AFC North matchup Sunday, this time in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Griffin and Glenn will both count down in sequential order of the five plays they believed to tell the story of Sunday’s loss.

Glenn’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:

5. 2nd & 7 at BAL 32 (14:18 – 1st) (Shotgun) D. Henry right tackle to BLT 36 for 4 yards (N. Herbig). FUMBLES (N. Herbig), RECOVERED by PIT-D. Elliott at BLT 42.

While it almost directly lead to three points the other way (which is why it has to be on the list), it also happened so early in the game that it’s hard to tie it directly to the ultimate result-so we leave it at five.

4. 4th & 6 at PIT 29 (5:14 – 1st) J. Tucker 47 yard field goal is no good, wide left, Center-N. Moore, Holder-J. Stout

The irony is that the short field actually didn’t hurt the Ravens any further after either miss. Still, leaving six points off the board is significant and this was the shorter of the kicks so this speaks for both misses.

3. 2nd & 2 at PIT 16 (1:06 – 4th) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass deep right to Z. Flowers for 1 yards, TOUCHDOWN. TWO-POINT CONVERSION ATTEMPT. L. Jackson pass is incomplete. ATTEMPT FAILS.

Clearly we’re only really reflecting on the failed two point conversion here, as the play seemed doomed from the start. Bad call, worse execution, damn near the final nail in the coffin.

2. 1st & 10 at BAL 9 (0:38 – 2nd) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass short left to I. Likely to BLT 13 for 4 yards (P. Queen; K. Benton). FUMBLES (P. Queen), touched at BLT 17, RECOVERED by PIT-P. Queen at BLT 19. P. Queen to BLT 19 for no gain

Whether it was legitimate or not (and it almost certainly was not), the impact was overwhelming. The worst case scenario should have been a 7-6 Ravens lead at the half.

1. 1st & 15 at BAL 40 (8:24 – 4th) (Shotgun) L. Jackson pass deep left intended for J. Hill INTERCEPTED by P. Wilson at PIT 36. P. Wilson to PIT 36 for no gain (J. Hill).

The volatility of this play (we’re talking about a nanosecond difference and this was a 24 yard gain into what should be scoring territory) is dramatic. And given when it occurred (nearly midway through the fourth quarter), it stands out most significantly.

Griffin’s Five Plays That Told The Story of Sunday’s Game:

5. 3rd & 4 at PIT 41 (1:34 – 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) L.Jackson pass deep right to N.Agholor to PIT 7 for 34 yards (D.Jackson).PENALTY on BLT-P.Mekari, Ineligible Downfield Pass, 5 yards, enforced at PIT 41 – No Play.

They ultimately score on the drive. But this is penalty #12 of the day. Mekari got called but Rosengarten and Faalele were also downfield. How–after 11 penalties already and being called for an illegal man downfield the drive before–do you get called for this again with the entire OL. Undisciplined, the only word needed to describe Sunday.

4. 3rd & 11 at PIT 32 (1:50 – 1st) (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass incomplete short left to J.Hill (D.Lowry).

Play right before the second missed field goal. No one open and Lamar has all day to throw before resorting to the check down of Justice Hill, but the pass is batted. Charles Davis said it, it’s a play Lamar should’ve ran on. Would help make it an easier field goal or even have a chance to pick up a first down. Goes back to what we’re saying, the math is changing with how they approach these 3rd and 4th down decisions.

3. 1st & 15 at BAL 40 (8:24 – 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass deep left intended for J.Hill INTERCEPTED by P.Wilson at PIT 36. P.Wilson to PIT 36 for no gain (J.Hill).

A strong summary of the game, the steelers making plays, the Ravens not. Once again gave the Steelers three points.

2. 2nd & 2 at PIT 16 (1:06 – 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass deep right to Z.Flowers for 16 yards, TOUCHDOWN. TWO-POINT CONVERSION ATTEMPT. L.Jackson pass is incomplete. ATTEMPT FAILS.

This is about the two-point conversion. Horrible play call. Horrible personnel. Everything about was horrible.

1. 1st & 10 at BAL 9 (0:38 – 2nd) (Shotgun) L.Jackson pass short left to I.Likely to BLT 13 for 4 yards (P.Queen; K.Benton). FUMBLES (P.Queen), touched at BLT 17, RECOVERED by PIT-P.Queen at BLT 19.

They should’ve went into HT with a lead. I don’t have anything wrong with the play call or anything like that, the Steelers made a play that gifted them three points and a HT lead. In my opinion it changed the whole dynamic of the game, much like Marlon Humphrey’s punch out on TNF, and who knows, maybe I feel differently if it wasn’t Patrick Queen making the play.
