Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–the Orioles went four up and two down on the week, making it hard to pick just three for the up and limited options for down, but one clear-cut anti-man of the week
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. RF Anthony Santander
If was hard to limit it to three this week because everyone was hitting. But it was particularly good to see Santander get going again in a week where he OPS-ed .955.
2. SP Corbin Burnes
He was brilliant. Seven innings without allowing an earned run while gutting out 108 pitches. Phenomenal.
1. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
10-22 with four extra base hits and another couple of walks in a week where he was white hot. Yes, the GIDP on Sunday was a huge bummer but it was an incredible week.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. SP Corbin Burnes
He was masterful against Boston, bearing down and going 7 innings, right before this stretch of a game nearly everyday for a month. I like that he Orioles have him.
2. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
He is absolutely scorching right now, and a hot Mountcastle is a scary sight, batted nearly .500 on the week with two bombs Saturday.
1. SP Cole Irvin
I like seeing a pitcher make two starts in a week, and Irvin was great in both, put a few guys on but never allowed it to amount to much damage. Plus, he’s just a great guy, out in the community, helping the city of Baltimore, an all around great week for Swirvin’ Irvin.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. OF Colton Cowser
It has felt a couple of times like he was getting back to his early season form but he simply hasn’t sustained it. He was 3/20 this week with four strikeouts.
2. SP Kyle Bradish
Let’s be abundantly clear. Kyle Bradish is tremendous and is a MAJOR part of the solution here. Unfortunately this week he made just one start and it went so poorly that he nearly doubled his ERA for the season so he had to make this list.
1. CF Cedric Mullins
We’ve reached a breaking point. No matter the positives, this can’t continue.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. RP Thyago Vieira
I mean seriously, come on. He is wasting a roster spot.
2. RP Keegan Akin
Piling on from last week in Chicago, his outing against Boston is a reminder that this is what he is: unreliable, at best.
1. CF Cedric Mullins
I hate it here.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
