Glenn and Griffin continue our Monday tradition for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically–the Orioles went 3-2 avoiding a sweep from the Blue Jays thanks to the walk-off heroics of Adley Rutschman and then took two of three from Seattle on the heels of some strong starting pitching…
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. OF Colton Cowser
With apologies to all of the pitchers, boy it’s good to have Cowser back. With his huge weekend, he finished 6-14 for the week with an additional six walks and, yeah, some pretty great defense.
2. C Adley Rutschman
You could flip flop him and Gunnar, really. He went 6-17 with three homers-one of which you probably remember well. He also got his arm into the mix too. It was quite the week.
1. SS Gunnar Henderson
But yeah, this guy homered in all three games this weekend and mixed in a triple, three walks and a stolen base during the weekend. He’s a star.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. C Adley Rutschman
Just willing the Orioles to a win when the offense had been dead the entire game on Wednesday. He refuses to be swept, it’s unreal to watch.
2. SP Corbin Burnes
Two really strong starts in five games, he absolutely SHOVED yesterday against Seattle. I’m not taking advantage of the fact that the Orioles have bonafide ace and will appreciate every day he’s on the mound.
1. SS Gunnar Henderson
I mean yeah he hit a homer in what felt like every game this week, but he makes eye popping plays in the field every night too, runs the bases like no one in an Orioles uniform I’ve ever seen. Just another incredible week.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. OF Anthony Santander
A rough 2-15 week for someone who has been slumping for the better part of the year.
2. RP Yennier Cano
I withdraw my requests for him to be the closer.
1. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
It seems like everyone has had a turn this year and this week was his. Just 1-16 with three strikeouts. Yuck.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. RP Yennier Cano
Grayson Rodriguez pitched beautifully in his reinstatement from the IL on Saturday night, and Cano lost them that game in what should’ve been a sweep. Plus he was not good on Monday in the loss to Toronto either. Not concerned, but he was not sharp this week.
2. 1B Ryan Mountcastle
Just a bad week at the plate for Mounty. And at a somewhat luxury position like first base, it gets magnified.
1. RP Jacob Webb
He was bad this week. Couldn’t find the strike zone against Toronto Wednesday, and nearly blew Burnes great start on Sunday.
Here’s a look at the season-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
