Glenn and Griffin continued their new segment for the 2024 baseball season Monday on GCR with ‘Three Up and Three Down’ where we rank the best and worst Orioles performers of the week, much like how we do with Pats on the Ass and Slaps to the Helmet during football season after Ravens games. The guys will each name three players, three trending up, three trending down, based on how they did for that week specifically.
Without further adieu:
Glenn’s Three Up:
3. RP Danny Coulombe
What he did on Saturday was MASTERFUL and the capper for a week of three scoreless innings with no hits and no walks. Tremendous.
2. SP Grayson Rodriguez
The home runs were a bit alarming but he still backed up his brilliant first start with another solid one and there is so much to be encouraged about.
1. SP Dean Kremer
The third inning against the Royals last week wasn’t great. But he fought through it and gave the team a chance to win and then followed it up with a phenomenal outing on Sunday.
Griffin’s Three Up:
3. 3B Jordan Westburg
It was a disappointing week offensively but delivered the moment of the week last Monday night with the walk-off Home Run vs KC, and he’s just too much fun to watch, plays good defense and grinds ABs to get on-base and on the base-paths.
2. SP Dean Kremer
Can’t overlook the fact the he did enough for his team to win in both starts of the week, so I won’t. Yesterday was fantastic.
1. SP Grayson Rodriguez
You’re telling the Orioles have not one, but TWO top of the rotation starters now? Grayson is so much fun to watch work and even when he doesn’t have his best stuff worked into the 7th inning to get the win on Pittsburgh’s Opening Day Friday afternoon. Oh and pitched through the freaking snow.
Glenn’s Three Down:
3. RP Mike Baumann
Unfortunately the only time we saw him this week was a wretched outing against the Pirates Saturday. Woof.
2. OF Cedric Mullins
I don’t want to overreact. But he was 2/17 with no walks and five strikeouts.
1. OF Austin Hays
It feels like the Quad City DJ’s have had a hit more recently.
Griffin’s Three Down:
3. 2B Tony Kemp
Not his fault, but what exactly do you do here?
2. SP Cole Irvin
Very poor start in the loss to KC. Credit for grinding out five innings but this is who he is.
1. LF Austin Hays
Hate to pile on, and hopefully this is just a really rough stretch, but 0-for-15.
Here’s a look at the league-long standings. scoring is simple: 3 points awarded to the top player in ‘Three Up’ each week, -3 points for the top player in ‘Three Down’ each week:
