Here at Glenn Clark Radio, we always reflect on the Baltimore Ravens game in a more jovial manner. In retrospect, we like to choose five players on the team who — depending on the outcome of the game — deserve a Pat On The Ass or Slap To The Helmet.
The rules are simple: pick two players on defense, two players on offense, and one “wild card” (an offensive player, defensive player, special teamer or coach) who stuck out from the pack.
The Ravens came up just short in their loss to the Steelers in Pittsburgh this week, so Glenn and Paul have some Pat’s on the Ass to hand out.
They will count down in sequential order before we name the ultimate prize — Two Pats on the Ass. That one player who one slap just wouldn’t isn’t enough.
Without further ado:
Glenn’s Slaps to the Helmet:
5. TE Mark Andrews
The two point conversion catch was difficult but was a play that could have been made. Combined with an earlier drop and the burden of expectations, it’s just enough to make the list.
4. LB Odafe Oweh
He just wasn’t disruptive on a night where they needed disruption in the backfield.
3. OT Tyre Phillips
It’s tough because we have so little in terms of expectations for Phillips and, you know, TJ Watt. But still.
2. CB Anthony Averett
Speaking of low expectations. Anthony Averett is not supposed to be this team’s #2 corner. But here we are.
1. QB Lamar Jackson (two slaps)
There’s no way of getting around it. He needs to be better. No NFL quarterback can make that pass (the interception in the first quarter). The two point conversion throw needed to be better too. And in between, there’s just no reason why he should be struggling this much with the cover zero looks. The throws are there to be made. He’s just not making them.
Paul Valle’s Slaps on the Helmet
5. Marlon Humphrey
Struggled to tackle, and lost a couple of guys in coverage. The defense actually played well, but you gotta have two defensive players for this
4. Mark Andrews
More costly drops in big games for this guy, including the game-winning two point conversion. He’s a star in the making, but the drops under the brightest lights have become egregious.
3. Anthony Averett
Got beat like he stole something twice, both of which should have resulted in touchdowns. Fortunately for him, Johnson dropped one of them
2. Alejandro Villanueva
Couldn’t even dig deep against his former team. He’s been a turnstyle all season and nothing changed on Sunday. His career is over
1. Lamar Jackson (2 Slaps)
He’s been a problem for this offense for a month. He’s been bad, and we can’t keep pretending it’s ok because he’s Lamar. He holds on to the ball too long and makes too many off-target throws. Surprising considering the contract he’s playing for this year
